We are ashamed of being afraid
Even when we don’t know what we are afraid of
We are scared of tomorrow
Even when today is just an infant
We turn lies inside out
Dress it up in truth-like attire
For the real truth scorches our tongues
Then we curse the world for sitting on our backs
For swelling our feet and screwing up our heads
We blame the past for bruising our present
For holding us at ransom and jailing our future
We gloat in mischief
Showcase our tears of joy as others wipe tears of pain
For modesty demeans us
And withers our ego
But still we lament
Over our stunted progress
Or runaway achievements
We strangle life, hammer nails into its head
Without caring we’ll still walk this world
